Essential Drug Formulary

First formulary manual was developed in 1997 and updated based on recommended treatments from Standard Treatment Guidelines and Essential Medicines List (EML) in 2005, using explicit drug selection criteria (relative efficacy, safety, suitability and cost). Ongoing formulary maintenance and routine drug use evaluations are key elements in promoting safe, efficacious, and cost effective drug use. Focused consideration of medication safety in all medication related discussions optimizes formulary system management.
